Sell order FAQ

Everything about selling your cards to Merlion Games — quotes, shipping, verification, and payout. US sellers only.

The basics

How does selling to Merlion Games work?

Build a sell list from the cards on our buylist, submit it, then ship your cards to us or drop them off at the store. We verify each card when it arrives and pay you out in cash or store credit — your pick at submission. Store credit pays a 10% bonus on top of the cash price.

Which cards do you buy?

Only cards on our buylist. If a card isn't listed, we aren't buying it by mail right now — but you're always welcome to bring your collection to the store for an in-person offer. Foil and non-foil printings are listed separately, each with its own price.

Is there a limit to how many copies I can sell?

Yes. Each buylist entry shows how many copies we want. Once other sellers' pending orders have claimed those copies, the entry drops off the list until we need more. Your submitted quantities are reserved for you the moment your order goes through.

Do I need an account?

Yes — sell orders are tied to your Merlion Games account so you can track status, add tracking numbers, message us about the order, and receive store credit.

Prices and quotes

How long is my quote good for?

Your quoted prices lock the moment you submit and are honored for 7 days. Ship or drop off your cards within that window. Orders that arrive after the window may be re-quoted at current buylist prices or returned.

What condition do quoted prices assume?

All buylist prices are for Near Mintcards. We confirm condition when your cards arrive — if a card grades below NM, we'll adjust the offer for that line or return the card to you, and the adjustment reason will be noted on your order.

Can prices change after I submit?

No. The buylist moves with the market, but your submitted order is a locked quote — market swings after submission don't change what we pay you, in either direction, as long as your cards arrive within the 7-day window and match the condition quoted.

Shipping your cards

Do you accept sell orders from outside the United States?

No. We do not accept sell orders shipped from outside the United States. International packages will be refused and returned to sender where the carrier allows; we cannot pay for, insure, or take responsibility for cards in a refused international shipment. If you're visiting the Bay Area, you're welcome to drop your cards off in person instead.

Where do I send my cards?

Ship as soon as you submit — there's nothing to wait for on our end. Address your package to:

Merlion Games
628 El Camino Real
San Carlos, CA 94070

Write your sell order number (SELL-…) on a note inside the package.

How should I pack my cards?

  • Sleeve your cards and pack them snug in a rigid container — a deck box, hard case, or similar. Cards that rattle around in transit arrive damaged.
  • Sort them in the exact order they appear on your sell list — it's how we check them in, and out-of-order packages take longer to verify.
  • Include your name and sell order number inside the package.
  • Skip rubber bands, loose tape on sleeves, and anything scented or damp-prone.

Should I use tracking or insurance?

Use tracking, always — you can add the tracking number to your sell order right from your account page. For higher-value orders we strongly recommend insurance too. Your cards are your responsibility until we receive them, and tracking plus insurance is what makes a carrier claim possible if something goes wrong in transit.

Dropping off in store

Can I bring my cards in instead of shipping?

Absolutely — pick Store Drop-off when you submit, then bring your cards to the counter at 628 El Camino Real, San Carlos and mention your sell order number. Same locked quote, no postage, and no transit risk.

Verification and payout

What happens after my cards arrive?

Your order moves to Being Verifiedwhile we check each card against your sell list — identity, printing, foil, and condition. Lines that match are accepted at the quoted price; lines that don't are adjusted or set aside for return, with the reason noted on your order. You can follow every step from your account.

What if I disagree with an adjustment?

Open a message thread from your sell order page and we'll talk it through. If we can't agree, we return the card — you're never out your cards over a grading disagreement.

How and when do I get paid?

You choose at submission. Store credit pays 10% more than cash and is applied to your account automatically the moment we finish verifying — it never expires and works on everything in the store. Cash is collected in person at the counter once your order is verified.

Cancellations

Can I cancel my sell order?

Yes — any time before we've received your cards, straight from your sell order page. Cancelling releases your reserved quantities back to the buylist. Once your package is in our hands and verification has started, only our staff can cancel; message us from the order if you need to.

Counterfeits, lost packages, and other problems

What happens if a card is counterfeit?

We are not an authentication service, but every card is inspected on arrival. Counterfeit and proxy cards will not be purchased and will not be returned — they are retained and destroyed to keep them out of circulation. A first occurrence gets a warning from our team; repeated or egregious submissions lead to suspension from our buylist and store services. If you're unsure about a card, tell us in the order notes and we'll check it with you rather than against you.

What if my package is lost or damaged in the mail?

Cards are your responsibility until they reach us — we cannot pay for cards we never receive, even if they're on your sell list. That's why we insist on tracking and recommend insurance: a lost or damaged package is a claim with your carrier, and we'll gladly provide any documentation you need to file it. If a package arrives visibly damaged or tampered with, we'll contact you before opening it so we can decide together whether to verify as-is or send it back for a claim.

What if a card on my list is missing from my package?

We verify against what's physically in the box. Cards listed on your order but not in the package are marked as not received — we can't pay for them, but the rest of your order proceeds normally.
